New Album Of The Week - Murder By Death - Red Of Tooth & Claw

Murder By Death
Red Of Tooth & Claw

Release Date: March 4, 2008
Genre: Rock/Indie/Alt-Country
Label: Vagrant Records

Murder By Death is a strange name. Before listening to this band, I would hear that name and immediately cringe at the thought of a death metal band playing in 7/4 time with black make-up and a comb over. Alternatively, they’re a band named after a 1976 film (of the same name) with a unique sound and great vocalist. Unparalleled, obscure, music with a dark, harsh tone (and great cellist). This album sounds like the soundtrack to a black and white, 1930’s gangster movie. They fit into a dark, alternative-country niche that Johnny Cash himself would be a fan of. The production quality is excellent and it’s evident that a Grammy Award winning producer (Trina Shoemaker) was involved. Expect great things from these Bloomington, Indiana natives.
