KATY PERRY CAUGHT RED HANDED

SHAME ON YOU

KATY PERRY BOTTOM FEEDS OFF 1995 SINGLE “I KISSED A GIRL”

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Katy Perry, you’ve been caught.  Most of you won’t recognize this song that I dug up from the 90s, but it’s a 1995 One-pseudo-hit-wonder song called “I Kissed A Girl” by Jill Sobule.  The lyrics are very similar to that of Katy Perry’s 2008 smash hit of the same title.

But, I would like to know what you guys think…is Katy Perry ripping off Jull Sobule?  Or just a common coincidence? Comment and let me know.

I have streamed full versions of both songs along with the lyrics to each chorus.  Make an assessment:

JILL SOBULE – “I KISSED A GIRL” 1995

“I kissed a girl, her lips were sweet
She was just like kissing me
I kissed a girl, won’t change the world
But I’m so glad I kissed a girl”

KATY PERRY – “I KISSED A GIRL” 2008

“I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chap stick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it”

Katy Perry’s version is way better. IMHO, this song needed to be stolen, if that is the case.

    I kissed a girl and I didn’t think it was that great…
Plus the first chick’s accent pisses me off.

I’m old enough to remember Jill Sobule’s song (and that it was fairly scandalous at the time), so when I first heard Katy Perry’s song title, I thought it was a remake. Then I heard the song and I could immediately tell that it wasn’t. At most, I think it’s a tribute, and Miss Perry was probably ten or eleven when that song came out, so who knows if that’s even the case.
Covering the same territory isn’t stealing per se, especially when there is a thirteen-year span between the two songs and enough musical disparity to say that they are their own separate pieces of insipidly catchy pieces of guilty pleasure pop art.
You want to talk rip-offs? Listen to Avril Lavigne’s girlfriend, then Google the Rubinoos and their 1979 song “I wanna be your boyfriend.” I think that’s still in litigation.

=0 The only phrase alike in katy perry’s ‘i kissed a girl’and jill suble’s is ‘i kissed a girl’ i mean they may have the same title but no offense Katy Perry’s version is alot better, i may only be saying that ’cause its more modern but Katy does acctually sing alot better.

I do not think that she copied the song, because they both are totally different.

i actually remember the first “i kissed a girl” song when it first came out. it made me feel better cuz it came out about the time i realized that i enjoyed kissing girls as well as boys.

though i am not the biggest katy fan, i don’t think she ripped the song off. *shrugs*
