WEEKLY POP CULTURE UPDATE (12.16.08)
THE NEVERMIND BABY

We all know the now classic album cover of Nirvana’s Nevermind released just a short seventeen years ago, and now the baby on the cover seems to be cashing in from his infant fame. Spencer Elden, now seventeen, calls himself the “Nirvana baby”, which I’m sure he uses to get laid on Saturday nights in some lame, middle-American town. No, really – for people who are famous for really stupid-ass reasons – when do they tell people something like being on the cover of one of the most famous albums of all-time? When they meet someone, how long do they wait before being like “…you know…I am the baby on the cover of Nirvana’s Nevermind“. I mean, if it helps him get chicks, then more power to him.

WHO THROWS A SHOE? HONESTLY
When I first saw this video over the weekend of some guy in the middle east throwing his shoes at President Bush during a press conference, I literally thought it was a Saturday Night Live skit. It looks like a joke. I must say that Bush does have pretty good reflexes. I give him props for barely even reacting. He just kind of stands there with this “WTF” look on his face. But let’s be honest, he usually has that look on his face.
Jimmy over at SI.com’s “Hot Clicks” and I were on the same page this morning. The first thing that came to my mind after seeing the above video was this scene from Austin Powers:

SONG OF THE WEEK
The bay area (San Francisco/Oakland) of California has some great rap music that the east coast has yet to become familiarized with yet. Most notably, rappers Andre Nickatina and San Quinn. For some more info on Andre Nickatina, check out my TOP 10 HIP-HOP SONGS YOU HAVEN’T HEARD list.
San Quinn has a new song called “SF Anthem” that is better than anything Kanye West’s overproduced ass has put out lately.

THE OFFICE IS GOOD AGAIN
I had a post about season 5 of The Office starting to get good, and now that Pam is back in Scranton, it’s gotten even better. The last two episodes have been fantastic. Hulu is a great place to catch up on The Office episodes – for free. Just in case you have 22 minutes of free time, here’s one of the episodes:
MOVIE OF THE WEEK
WALL-E

I had my doubts about this animated Pixar film about a trash compactor that basically makes noises throughout an entire movie, but it was very enjoyable. Wall-E might be the most likable and fun character Pixar has ever created – and that’s saying a lot. The movie also has a somewhat political and sociocultural theme in which it is set in the future and the earth has been abandoned due to an extreme abundance of trash. Go rent it. I am going to consider it for my Top 5 Movies of 2008 list soon to be released at the first of the year… 8/10
