“Obsessions” is a song that stands out – a song with actual creativity, and the second I heard it, I knew it wasn’t American. Not because of her soft accent, but a meticulous production value that isn’t really happening right now in a country where the Jonas Brothers are nominated for a Grammy. Our mainstream music is becoming overwhelmingly dull, and it’s not necessarily the artists responsible for the demise of good music – it’s sophomoric producers creating music with no hint of ingenuity. A singer with musical balls. A Wales lyricist with unapologetic song structure and unconventional vocal style, most notably during the first pre-chorus (“Won’t you quit your crying, I can’t sleep…”). She kicks ass and I expect this song to gain a lot of ground after its Valentine’s Day official release…
