NEKO CASE
“PEOPLE GOT A LOTTA NERVE”
Singer/Songwriter Neko Case’s latest album, Middle Cyclone, released on Tuesday. I love the lyrics in this song. It’s one of those songs you listen to 10 times before you realize what they’re talking about, but when you do, it’s that much better. “You know, they call them killer whales / but you seem surprised when it pinned you down to the bottom of the tank where you can’t turn around / it took half your leg and both your lungs / and I craved I ate hearts of sharks”, with the great chorus, “I’m a man eater, yet you’re surprised when I eat ya”. Lyrics that, when written on paper, look strange – but she makes it work. Check out “This Tornado Loves You” from the same album.

THE FEATURES
“BLOW IT OUT”
Great band from Nashville that does the Independent rock thing without the pretentious bullshit. Poppy, but not too poppy – this song rocks. “If you’re happy and you know it turn the volume up and blow it out.”

The Features are so under-rated. They never fail to put out some of the hookiest and fun indie pop/rock. I suggest you check out their new cd “Some Kind of Salvation” It’s amazing…
TSF – first time commenter here. You have the best blog on the intertubes, hands down. Anyhow, thanks for the Features post, you’ve given me a CD to go buy!
