NEW SONGS FOR YOUR iPOD (06.10.09)

CAGE THE ELEPHANT
“AIN’T NO REST FOR THE WICKED”

Cage The Elephant is a southern rock band from Kentucky with extreme influence by British Rock, most notably the best band of my lifetime, Arctic Monkeys. At some points, they’re too similar and the lead singer sounds like he’s trying to emulate Alex Turner of AM. Regardless, this song deserves a spot on your iPod and a place on your summer playlist. From their 2009 self-titled release. Also check out “In One Ear”, which is probably the better track, but not as single-friendly.

PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS
“ACID RAINDROPS”

People Under The Stairs are a hip-hop duo from Los Angeles with a stripped-down, underground hip-hop style. The beats take a back seat to the flow in songs that could almost be a cappella and you’d still listen to it. “Acid Raindrops” is from 2002’s The OM Years. (thanks to Alex N. for the email suggestion)

LADY GAGA “PAPARAZZI” MUSIC VIDEO

Lady GaGa

Why wouldn’t Stefani Germanotta Lady GaGa make a short movie for the video to her latest single, “Paparazzi”? Clocking in at just under 8 minutes, GaGa has managed to take a marginal song and make it interesting. But this is something that she has become a professional at not only as a musician, but as a mastermind behind a schematic plot to make you care.

She’s an artist and a con-artist. The trick to being famous is either having people love you or hate you. No press is bad press. Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are famous because people hate them, Tom Hanks is famous because people love him. There is a thin line between infamy and fame, and Lady GaGa teeters on the brink of both - so aptly named her debut record, The Fame.

This video is the weirdest of the weird. I really want to see what she wears to bed or how she looks in the morning. I also wish I was in on the meeting were she thought that walking on crutches was a good idea, and I would like to know who in the hell agreed with her.

CHECK OUT MY LEG, Y’ALL

Megan Fox

OBLIGATORY WEEKLY MEGAN FOX POST ALERT

Here’s some pictures of Megan Fox at the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen premiere on Monday in Japan. I can’t remember if Japan is in the future or the past - that international date line shit blows my mind. So when a human crosses it, we lose a day, if a dog crosses it, does he lose like 6 months? I can’t take credit for that joke because Chandler Bing said it first, but you thought I was witty for at least 2-3 seconds. I got a laugh out of you either way, so I win.

Did she buy this dress with the intent to show her leg for the majority of the pictures? Was this the intention of the designer? You have to pull that piece of fabric over countless times just to get the full effect of the dress. You think they’d cut (no pun intended) you a deal and hem the dress so that said amazing legs could be visible at all times.

As for the title of this post: while I doubt that someone like Megan Fox would actually use the word “Y’all” in a sentence, she is from Oak Ridge, Tennessee, which is exactly 168 miles from my hometown. Little things like that make me feel important and help me get out of bed in the morning.

I SAW THE HANGOVER

The Hangover

So I took a week off from the blog to do things that are seemingly more important than running a semi-popular entertainment website, whatever that may be. I hope in your time off from reading my blog you found yourself discovering something new or going outdoors to soak up the wonderful wildlife that shares this big ball o’ fun with us. Or maybe you discovered a newer, even better blog than the one you are reading now. If you did, well good for you.

On Saturday when I wasn’t writing for the blog I was hitting the local cinema to check out the first comedy hit of the summer, The Hangover. I was really hoping that the actual movie would live up to its hilarious trailer and promising cast, and fortunately that was the case.

The Hangover is the story of four dudes planning on spending a night in Vegas for a bachelor party. You may recognize Ed Helms (right) as Andy from The Office, Zach Galifianakis (left) from Out Cold or this video, Bradley Cooper (middle) as the asshole fiance of Claire in Wedding Crashers, and the other dude (not pictured) - I’ve got no clue who he is.

Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis will ultimately make this movie a smash success. The two will undoubtedly earn this movie box office success, unlike most comedies with a relatively unknown cast that gain a cult following once they hit video (Half Baked, Saving Silverman, etc.)

This comedy is a refreshing departure from the usual Judd Apatow gang and Will Ferrell movies of the summer. It’s extremely well-written with likable characters and an exciting plot line. It’s one of those movies that you’ll want to buy on video because you know it will be something you can watch over and over again.

It’s jam-packed with not only subtle and dry humor, but slapstick humor as well - you know, for the kids, or your friends who smoke too much marijuana. It can truly be enjoyed by anyone with a sense of humor who can appreciate (or not appreciate) waking up and not remembering the night before.

Plus, I find it hard for myself to not embrace a movie that features Phil Collins on the soundtrack.

Is this movie entertaining? Highly. Is it worth your hard-earned money? Definitely. 8/10
