OAK RIDGE BOYS COVER WHITE STRIPES

The White Stripes

This is awesome. The Oak Ridge Boys are one of the most respected country groups of all The Oak Ridge Boystime, and now they’re in their late 60s - a perfect time to take a chance and cover one of the most popular rock bands of the 21st century.

The Oak Ridge Boys now own the rights to the best White Stripes cover you’ll ever hear - and that’s including Joss Stone’s 2003 cover of “Fell In Love with a Boy”, which was quite overhyped.

“Seven Nation Army is a song with an incredible bassline and crushing vocals, and The Oak Ridge Boys nailed it.

The second video is the original, recorded by The White Stripes

The song will be featured on their new album, The Boys Are Back, set to release this month.

JACK WHITE’S LATEST PROJECT: THE DEAD WEATHER

The Dead Weather

The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and now The….Dead Weather? That’s the name of Jack White’s newest band, composed of White, The Kills‘ Alison Mosshart, The Raconteur’s Jack Lawrence, and Dean Fertita from Queens of the Stone Age. It’s like an indie rock super group, the only bad news is that the band’s first single, “Hang You From the Heavens,” isn’t graced by White’s vocals, but his skilled production is evident from the harsh opening riff. Listen below:

It’s depressing to see Jack White’s name attached to a project where he doesn’t lend his unique and earth shattering vocals. Seems like a waste. They should go back and record another version of that song with Jack singing lead - I mean the chick is o.k., but that’s the problem, she’s just ‘o.k.’ But from a musical standpoint, the song sounds great.

Jack White’s label, Third Man Records, hosted The Dead Weather last night in Nashville, Tennessee for their first gig to a modest crowd of 150 people. The band’s debut album, Horehound, is set to release in June and you can purchase the single on iTunes now.

10 GREAT ROCK SONGS OF THE 2000s THAT YOU HAVEN’T HEARD

Just because TSF claims “you haven’t heard” it doesn’t mean you literally haven’t heard it.  This is a collection of rock songs from the 21st century that, generally speaking, haven’t been played on the radio or featured in any mainstream media.  There are some huge acts on this list, but I have listed some of their lesser-known songs.

Maybe “The Denial Twist” was on the radio…either way, you need to hear it.

The Arctic Monkeys are the best new rock band of the 2000s.  I highly recommend all of their stuff.  Caviar’s self-titled album from 2000 is extremely overlooked.  You should pick that up as well.

I have made this list into an iTunes iMix, which you can directly download from the iTunes store.
