NEW SONGS FOR YOUR iPOD (04.27.09)
KID CUDI
“DAY ‘N NITE”
I love this song and it should immediately be added to any summer mixes you will be making. The remix is much more dance friendly, but I like the stripped down version better. I hung out with Kid Cudi last week, he’s a cool dude. His album hits stores late summer.

TINTED WINDOWS
“DEAD SERIOUS”
Supergroup Tinted Windows released the first album last week, and “Dead Serious” is definitely the best track.

KELLY CLARKSON
“I DO NOT HOOKUP”
Great pop song. Actually written and recorded by Katy Perry, and Kelly Clarkson decided to release it as a single. Hear Katy Perry’s version here. Also, get “Long Shot” by Kelly Clarkson – arguably the best song on her new album.

Tinted Windows (click here if you don’t know who that is) has released their 2nd single, “Messing With My Head”, and it’s another track of power pop/rock goodness. I have posted the studio version, plus the live version from last month’s South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. Both versions r-o-c-k.
Can’t. Wait. Until. The. Album.

NEW SONGS FOR YOUR iPOD (03.11.09)
KT TUNSTALL
“HOLD ON”
KT Tunstall is under-appreciated. This song is from her latest album Drastic Fantasic released in ‘07.

WEEN
“BANANAS AND BLOW”
Ween is that band that you’ve always heard of, but never really listened to. Well, here’s your chance. This song is amazing, although only the 2nd best Ween song behind “Piss Up a Rope”…go get that one as well.

I decided to do some searching for the new Tinted Windows single, “Kind of a Girl”, for you guys to download since it isn’t on iTunes yet and here you go: right click this link and “save as”.
Also, I found this video that features a portion of a second song called “Messin’ With My Head” that we haven’t heard yet. On a somber note, I want to kick the host of this show’s ass, I can’t think of a worse host than this. Good choice.
TINTED WINDOWS RELEASE FIRST SINGLE

TSF told you about new supergroup Tinted Windows this weekend, and sure enough we didn’t have to wait too long to hear the band’s first single, “Kind of a Girl”. Power chords and background “whoa oh-ohs” from the rest of the band point towards the production of the skilled hand that brought us “That Thing You Do” and “Stacy’s Mom”, Fountains of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger. Taylor Hanson’s vocals are the perfect complement to Schlesinger’s style, and having former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha on guitar doesn’t hurt either. Listen below to the pop/rock goodness:

TINTED WINDOWS – THE NEW SUPERGROUP

What do you get when you combine former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos, Hanson’s Taylor Hanson, and Fountains of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger? A new supergroup called Tinted Windows who has just finished recording their first album in NYC set to release this spring. They will play their first show on March 20th at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. If anyone is going to SxSW, report back to me about this project if you get to see them live … I’m highly curious and pretty damn excited. Adam Schlesinger is a great songwriter – he’s the mastermind behind the insanely catchy song “That Thing You Do”, the title track to the 1997 Tom Hanks movie of the same name. Not only one of my favorite movies, but one of my favorite songs of the 90s. I met Adam Schlesinger after a Fountains of Wayne concert in 2005. I scared him off after repeatedly announcing that “he’s the dude who wrote ‘That Thing You Do’!” and proclaiming him a genius to everyone in the vicinity. True story.
And Taylor Hanson is a highly underrated songwriter and musician. Everybody and their brother assumes Hanson faded somewhere around 2001, but they’ve matured into a pretty damn good band with two high quality releases over the last few years, 2004’s Underneath and 2007’s The Walk. Proof:
Tinted Window’s MySpace page doesn’t have any music up yet – we’ll be waiting…
